Meditation in Business

It seems to me that people today, in 2022, are generally a lot more open to the idea of meditating than they were 40 or 50 years ago, or even 20 years ago. For quite some time now as well, some companies have allowed or even promoted the teaching of meditation classes on their premises, and even encouraged their employees to learn to meditate.

Some of these earlier meditation classes in business settings were initially “sold” to company decision makers with the idea that meditation could potentially help their employees deal with things like stress and anxiety, and also develop and maintain a positive attitude.

There is no doubt that meditation can potentially help us deal with stress and anxiety, and to develop and maintain a positive attitude. And to the extent that practising meditation helps some employees in a company in these ways, that has to be a benefit, both for the employees and for the company.

But the potential benefits to a company of having employees – and perhaps key executives too – who meditate can go far beyond reducing workplace stress and having a more positive attitude while at work.

As experienced meditators know, meditation also has the potential to open our minds to creative thinking. Some company employers and key decision-makers may think they do not require creative thinking from most of their employees; they just want their employees to keep their focus on the same repetitive tasks, doing the same things over and over again, and leave the creative thinking to management.

This kind of attitude may work for some companies. At the same time, it overlooks the fact that any employee, given the opportunity, may come up with a better idea as to how to do something, and that idea – which can literally come from any employee – could end up saving the company a lot of money. Good creative ideas do not come exclusively from people in management positions.

Learning to meditate could also potentially benefit those in key positions, including those who make major policy decisions, and set the direction for the company. Major decisions with respect to future direction are made not only by gathering facts and figures, and assuming straight-line growth for company targets and goals. Of course many, if not most, things about the future are unknown. Training and logical thinking can only take us so far.

Inventions and new ideas come from the creative source within each of us. No matter what we do in life, and whether we realize it or not, we all have that creative source inside us. This creative source is part of the package we carry with us, when we arrive for this lifetime. Many of us – and perhaps most – lose much or most of our awareness of this creative potential inside us as we grow up.

Fortunately, all is not lost! Some among us may have retained a lot more awareness of our inner creative source than others. And the good news is that we can all learn to go inside and reconnect with, or tap into, that part of ourselves. We just need to be open to the idea, first of all, and then be willing to delve into connecting with and exploring this part of ourselves. And meditation can be instrumental in helping us do this.

(We all have within us our very own Godself, which knows all about us, and knows exactly what we need in each moment. Our very own Godself is also wishing to guide and support us, at all times. Our Godself is also the source of the creative potential that each of us carries within us, when we arrive for this lifetime. It is part of the package we arrive with. Many of us lose much, and perhaps most, of our awareness of this creative potential inside us as we grow up. And meditation can help us reconnect with that part of us that knows our true creative potential in this lifetime.

We don’t even need to believe or be really sure that we have this Godself within us, in order to connect with that part of ourselves. We just need to be open to the idea our Godself may exist, and be willing to explore the possibility. Meditation can assist us in doing so. We can all learn to connect with our very own Godself, and with the creative potential within us.)

Think of the potential benefits that could flow to both owners and employees of any business or company, large and small, when those owners and employees are connected with their creative potential.

We all have the potential to connect with the creative potential inside ourselves, and bring this inherent creativity to our work, as well as all other areas of our lives. We can all learn to do this – if we are Willing.

Are you Willing?
